Coen Brothers Refuse To Film Big Lebowski Sequel
Don't expect to see a new Big Lebowski cinema any prison term before long.
To date, The Big Lebowski is easily the most flourishing film created by Book of Joel and Ethan Coen. Initially a cult standard, the film's following grew to so much Brobdingnagian proportions that it's now best described every bit a legitimately classic film. It's infinitely quotable, clever, and features fantastical acting from a throw up full of thespians whose aggregated Movie industry applaud is simply massive. Contempt all of this, we won't ever make up lining up for tickets to The Big Lebowski 2.
In a press conference at Cannes, the Coen Brothers shot down the idea of a sequel, saying that they plainly don't make such films. "St. John the Apostle Turturro, who wants IT, talks to us incessantly near doing a continuation about his character Redeemer," states Ethan Coen. "Helium eve has the story worked out, which he's inclined to us a couple of times, but I can't really remember IT."
"No, I Don River't see it in our future," Coen adds.
Joel Coen puts things in more concrete, succinct terms: "I don't believe it's going to happen … I just don't like sequels."
On one hand, IT's sad that we won't see other Big Lebowski film. The characters of that movie and the world they inhabit is endlessly interesting, and almost any member of the cast could support his operating room her own spin-off. That same, I've gained a lot of respect for the Coens and their stance on sequels. Screenland is so immediate to churn out unnumberable follow-up movies whenever something proves a dispatch, so by taking a stand against that idea in favor of telling a story for that story's sake proves that the Coens are not really in it for the money, but are instead more fascinated in artistic fulfillment. That's refreshing, if for no early reason than it's passing, depressingly rarified.
